DELWARE MEMORIAL BRIDGE ACCIDENT RESULTS IN RIVER RECOVERY OPERATION
Emergency crews are conducting a recovery operation in the Delaware River following a truck accident off the Delaware Memorial Bridge early on July 11, 2025.
According to the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA), a tractor, which was not towing a trailer, fell from the southbound span around 3:40 a.m. The driver was recovered alongside the vehicle at approximately 11 a.m. on July 12 after teams from the Delaware State Police Marine Dive Unit and Holloway Terrace Fire Company joined the search.
The tractor was located in 20 feet of water shortly after the incident, at 10:45 a.m. on July 11. Recovery efforts began at 9 a.m. on July 12, delayed due to challenging water and tide conditions. A crane and barge from an adjacent construction project were utilized in the operation.
Authorities confirmed that the body of the driver was extracted using a Hurst tool, known for its use in emergency rescues. The investigation into the cause of the crash and the identity of the driver is ongoing.
Traffic conditions on the bridge were impacted by the incident, and officials are working to assess any lane closures resulting from recovery operations.
