IndyCar Series Champion Alex Palou Discusses Team Motivation Post-Title Win
LEBANON – IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou stated the team remains motivated despite clinching their fourth title.
On August 31, driver David Malukas was airlifted for precautionary reasons following a crash during the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix. Malukas was involved in the incident on Lap 88 while running in second place. Rookie Louis Foster, a lap down, collided with Malukas, pushing him into the wall.
After the accident, Malukas was transported to a trauma center for evaluation. “David’s doing well,” said Dr. Julia Vaizer. “He’s awake, alert, and in good spirits.”
Foster, who qualified second, expressed concern for Malukas. “I heard he went to the hospital, so I want to make sure he’s OK,” he stated. Foster insisted he wasn’t at fault, claiming he maintained his line before the incident occurred.
Following the crash, Foster received a blocking penalty, jeopardizing his Rookie of the Year title chase—he started the race eight points ahead of Robert Shwartzman and ultimately secured the award by two points.
