Driver Charged After Car Crash on Lewes Beach Early Morning
A driver has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, and lack of insurance following a crash on Lewes Beach on March 23 at approximately 2 a.m.
The incident occurred near the main beach parking lot at Savannah Beach, with doorbell camera footage capturing the vehicle speeding down Savannah Road prior to the crash. Firefighters and Emergency Medical Services from Lewes Fire Department found the car rolled over multiple times, resting on its passenger side about 25 yards from the roadway.
The driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Emergency responders stabilized the car and successfully extricated the driver, who was subsequently transported to Beebe Healthcare. According to Lewes Police Chief Thomas Spell, the driver is in stable condition.
Authorities have not released the name of the driver due to the misdemeanor charges. The investigation is ongoing.
