Death in ATV crash prompts reckless homicide charges in Kentucky

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — One person is dead and another has been arrested following an crash on Monday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), 32-year-old Shawn Cornett was driving an ATV near the 7800 block of Hardswicks Creek Road when he lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. KSP reported that 29-year-old Ashley Plowman, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Powell County coroner.

Cornett sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Clark Regional Hospital. However, he reportedly left the hospital against medical advice.

Following further investigation, KSP arrested Cornett at his residence and charged him with reckless homicide, all-terrain vehicle violations, and operating without a license. He is currently incarcerated in the Powell County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation by KSP.
