Cyclist killed in Brooklyn crash involving two cars

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) – A cyclist was killed in a two-car crash in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

According to preliminary police reports, an 18-year-old man driving a 2019 Dodge Charger headed south on Coney Island Avenue collided with a 2018 Honda SUV traveling east on Avenue L at approximately 12:27 p.m. The impact caused the SUV to slide into the southeast corner of the intersection, where it struck 52-year-old cyclist Jose Alzorriz. Debris from the crash also hit a 52-year-old male .

First responders arrived on the scene and found Alzorriz unconscious, suffering from trauma to the head and body. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities reported that the pedestrian and the driver of the Honda SUV were both taken to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
