Crash Leads to Arrest of Tyler Robinson for Murder

ST. GEORGE, Utah (TNND) — Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10 at a college campus.

Authorities released video footage from a police encounter in 2022, showing Robinson after a car crash in St. George. In the footage, he cooperates with officers, explaining the details of the incident and joking about adding oil to his vehicle.

Robinson’s family described him as someone influenced by radical online communities, referencing “deep, dark internet” spaces, according to Utah Gov. Spencer Cox. A family member reportedly contacted a friend, suggesting Robinson implied he was the shooter.

Robinson’s father recognized him in photographs released by the FBI during their investigation. His roommate provided messages from the chatting app Discord, discussing a rifle and ammunition.

Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and other offenses, including tampering with a witness.

Utah prosecutors announced plans to seek the death penalty.
