Crash kills two children, injures Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes.

Miami Hurricanes Linebacker Arrested in Fatal Crash

LARGO, FL — Miami Hurricanes linebacker Adarius Hayes, 20, was arrested following a two-car crash on May 10 that claimed the lives of two children and a 78-year-old woman, authorities reported.

The crash occurred when Hayes, driving a Dodge Durango, collided with a Kia Soul. The impact resulted in the deaths of 10-year-old Jabarai Solomon and 4-year-old Charlie Solomon Riveria, who were rear passengers in the Kia, and 78-year-old Gail Price, the driver, who died a day later in the hospital. A front passenger, 58-year-old Herbert Riveria, survived the crash after hospitalization.

According to police, Hayes turned himself into the Largo Police Department and faces three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury. He was reportedly traveling at high speed and making reckless lane changes moments before the crash.

Investigators determined that Hayes accelerated to 78.9 mph in a 40 mph zone just before the collision. Police found no signs of impairment for either driver.

“The investigation concluded that Adarius Hayes’ egregious speed and aggressive driving demonstrated a willful disregard for safety,” police stated.

Following the arrest, the University of Miami announced Hayes’ indefinite suspension from all athletic activities. Hayes played 12 games as a freshman and was a notable recruit from Largo High School.

He has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail; attorney information is currently unavailable.
