BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — A man with an outstanding federal warrant was arrested following a crash that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl on November 11.
The driver, identified as Elvin Ramos-Caballero, struck Mora Gerety at approximately 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Ada St. and Harrison Blvd. According to authorities, the girl was hit while crossing the street. The Ada County Coroner confirmed her death resulted from multiple blunt force injuries, determining the manner of death as an accident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the pickup truck driver stopped at a stop sign before the collision, while the young pedestrian had been waiting on the sidewalk. Traffic backups on Harrison Blvd contributed to the fatal incident when both the driver and the pedestrian entered the intersection simultaneously.
Emergency responders transported Gerety to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A memorial has since formed at the crash site as the community mourns her loss.
Boise Mayor Lauren McLean emphasized the need for safer environments for children, stating, “Every child should be able to play and explore their neighborhood safely.” Rep. Russ Fulcher also expressed his condolences, urging the community to support the grieving family.
The investigation remains ongoing.
