Crash involving construction equipment causes major I-25 delays.

Southbound I-25 Reopens After Morning Crash Involving Construction Equipment

Southbound Interstate 25 in downtown Denver reopened just before noon on Wednesday following a crash involving construction equipment, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).

As of 11:45 a.m., the highway was clear between exit 213 for Park Avenue and exit 212C for 20th Street. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when a shuttle buggy, used for transferring hot-mixed asphalt and weighing approximately 80,000 pounds, fell off a flatbed truck and landed on its side near the 20th Street off-ramp.

Authorities reported that the heavy equipment posed challenges in removal and necessitated cleanup of hydraulic fluid that leaked onto the roadway. The crash caused significant delays for drivers, closing all but one lane and fully halting traffic around 10 a.m. while crews repositioned the equipment.

Footage captured from CDOT cameras showed slow-moving traffic extending for miles during the Wednesday morning rush hour. The incident disrupted ongoing construction work for the I-25 resurfacing project between Alameda and 44th avenues.

No injuries were reported, and the situation remains under review by state transportation officials.
