Houma, LA — Kyren Lacy, a former LSU wide receiver accused of negligent homicide, criticized the Louisiana State Police’s (LSP) narrative regarding a fatal crash during an interview on HTV 10. Lacy, 24, turned himself in to authorities in January for negligent homicide, felony hit and run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
According to attorney Matt Ory, Lacy was nearly 100 yards behind the collision site that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall on Dec. 17, 2024. Ory argued that despite Lacy’s illegal passing of multiple vehicles, this distance implicates him as not responsible for the crash. LSP reports claim Lacy’s reckless driving led to the crash, stating he swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision between a Kia Cadenza and a Sorrento.
Hall was a passenger in the Sorrento and later died from his injuries. Ory presented body camera footage showing inconsistencies in witness accounts, particularly regarding emergency braking to avoid Lacy’s vehicle.
Following his legal troubles, Lacy took his own life in Houston in April, just days before a grand jury hearing that could have cleared him. Ory referenced a statement from the Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office emphasizing that evidence did not support Lacy’s culpability in the crash.
In his collegiate career, Lacy caught 112 passes and scored 16 touchdowns, notably a decisive score against Ole Miss during the 2024 season. He participated in LSU’s pro day in March but was not invited to the NFL scouting combine prior to the 2024 draft.
Authorities continue to investigate the case.
