LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A hit-and-run investigation is underway following an incident that left a 12-year-old pedestrian with life-threatening injuries on Friday morning.
The collision occurred around 7:39 a.m. on East Owens Avenue, east of North 21st Street, in an active school zone, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. A 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 27-year-old OH’Ryan Brooks, was reportedly traveling eastbound on Owens Avenue when it failed to yield to the child crossing in an implied crosswalk.
The vehicle struck the left side of the pedestrian, propelling him into an iron fence. Authorities stated Brooks fled the scene but was later located along with the Mitsubishi. The juvenile was transported to the UMC Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.
Police indicated that Brooks exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence and Hit and Run. “If you flee from the scene of an accident, we will find you,” Deputy Chief Jose Hernandez emphasized.
The investigation is ongoing by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
