Bicyclist injured in DUI crash late night in Rehoboth Beach

Bicyclist Struck on Rehoboth Avenue at 1:08 a.m.

A 21-year-old woman was injured after being struck by a vehicle on Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach early on July 9.

According to authorities, the woman was riding home from her late-night shift at Zelky’s when the incident occurred. She has since been released from the hospital but faces a lengthy recovery.

Matt Weiner, the owner of Zelky’s, which operates an amusement center on the Boardwalk, said he helped establish a GoFundMe page to support her. The victim requested that her name remain private.

Megan Smith, 20, of Lewes, has been charged with several offenses, including felony forgery, driving under the influence of alcohol, and inattentive driving. The forgery charge is related to the use of a fake identification card. Smith has been released on her own recognizance, pending a preliminary hearing at Sussex County Court of Common Pleas.

Weiner expressed uncertainty about whether the victim will return to work at Zelky’s and confirmed that the team is providing assistance in any way possible.

The GoFundMe campaign aims to cover medical bills, transportation costs, lost wages, and legal fees. It can be accessed at GoFundMe.
