Las Vegas Man Pleads Not Guilty to DUI-Related Fatal Crash
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Maximiliano Chavez, 27, pleaded not guilty in Clark County court on Wednesday to charges stemming from a DUI crash that resulted in the death of an unborn baby and injuries to several others.
Authorities reported that Chavez allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Windmill Lane on September 6, colliding with multiple vehicles. The incident critically injured Rebekah Dauz and her young son, Isaiah, and led to the death of Dauz’s unborn child.
Chavez faces seven felony charges, including four counts of DUI resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, and two counts of reckless driving causing death or substantial bodily harm. He was released on a $250,000 bond and is subject to high-level electronic monitoring, prohibiting him from driving, consuming alcohol, or engaging in unlawful activity.
Witnesses reported that both Rebekah and Isaiah were hospitalized for several weeks but have since been discharged. The family is receiving support through a GoFundMe fundraiser.
Chavez’s defense attorney, Robert Draskovich, has represented high-profile cases in the past. The trial is set to begin on April 27.
