Lede: A 60-year-old man, identified as Stuart Stevens, died in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 13 outside Farmville on October 3.
According to the State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 7:47 a.m. as Stevens was traveling north in his Dodge pickup truck, which was towing a trailer. He reportedly lost control, and the vehicle ran off the road, struck a driveway culvert, and overturned. Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities indicated that speed was a contributing factor in the crash. Following the incident, one lane of the highway was closed for several hours to facilitate investigation and recovery efforts.
Greenville Police Department officials confirmed that Stevens served as an officer from 1995 to 2009.
