HEBRON, Ky. (LEX 18) — An 18-year-old from Ohio was killed Tuesday night after losing control of his motorcycle on I-275 in Boone County.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, Maxwell Trentman of West Chester, Ohio, was traveling westbound near the 5.5-mile marker around 10:49 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle at a slight right-hand curve.
Authorities reported that Trentman laid the bike down, slid off the roadway, and struck a guardrail. The collision shattered the motorcycle and ejected him onto the roadway, where he was then hit by four vehicles that were unable to avoid him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second motorcyclist could not avoid debris from Trentman's motorcycle and lost control, laying down his own bike. He was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. Preliminary findings indicate excessive speed, loss of control, and failure to maintain lane as contributing factors.
Trentman was reportedly wearing a helmet, but the impact dislodged it. All parties involved are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
