BUSH, La. — An eight-year-old girl was killed in a crash on LA Hwy 40 Tuesday morning.
According to Louisiana State Police, Jewel Leger, 8, of Covington, was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling west on LA Hwy 40, just east of Hurd Road. The initial investigation indicates that as the car approached a left-hand curve, it veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree.
Leger was seated in the front passenger seat and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are continuing their investigation. Further details regarding the crash and any potential charges have not yet been confirmed.
