Tesla Driver Charged in Serious Accident at St. Georges Technical High School
A 45-year-old driver, identified as Andrew Naylor, crashed his Tesla into multiple vehicles at St. Georges Technical High School on September 8, injuring at least two people. Authorities reported Naylor’s blood alcohol level was 0.251, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.
Naylor, an employee of the Delaware Department of Justice, was charged with first- and second-degree vehicular assault and driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred just minutes before classes were dismissed, as he drove rapidly through the school’s parking lot on Hyetts Corner Road, north of Middletown.
Two individuals were injured: a 42-year-old man from Middletown was flown to a hospital with possible broken ribs and an injured hip, while a 55-year-old woman from Delaware City sustained a sprained ankle.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, and Naylor’s employment was terminated following the incident. A statement from Attorney General Kathy Jennings assured the public of accountability and that experienced prosecutors from a different office would handle Naylor’s case.
The investigation is ongoing, with no further details about lane closures or tows reported at this time.
