Two Arrested After Crashes Involving Police Car in Madison
MADISON (WKOW) — Two individuals were arrested early Tuesday morning following two separate vehicle crashes involving a Monona police car.
According to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord due to a mismatched license plate on U.S. Highway 12. The driver, 47-year-old Tyrone J. Lettman of Windsor, fled, leading to a brief pursuit that ended when the Honda crashed into a tree on Dempsey Road.
Lettman then abandoned the Honda and entered a red Chrysler 300, driven by 49-year-old Ann C. Stelling. Authorities reported that Stelling’s vehicle collided with a Monona police car before coming to a stop in a grassy marsh area off Milwaukee Street.
Stelling was arrested for resisting and obstructing, as well as violating her probation. Lettman faces charges of felony fleeing and eluding.
Minor damage occurred to the Monona police car, but the officer involved was not injured.
“This is a great example of Dane County law enforcement agencies working together to resolve a potentially dangerous situation peacefully,” said Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett.
Both suspects are currently held at the Dane County Jail.
