Fatal crash leads to teen’s release from treatment program

Teen Released from Treatment After Fatal Crash

A 15-year-old who crashed a stolen car, resulting in the death of 28-year-old Yoshua Humphrey, was released from a residential treatment program on Sept. 9.

Last October, Green Township police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle driven by the teen. Authorities reported that he sped away, colliding with two vehicles and causing Humphrey’s death.

The teen’s release comes amid ongoing legal issues for his father, who faces felony charges for allegedly obstructing justice by aiding his son’s escape from the scene. Prosecutors claim he picked up the teen after the crash, helped him change clothes, and transported him to school.

In April, the teen was admitted to Buckeye Ranch, a secure facility providing inpatient behavioral health services. Prosecutors noted that Humphrey’s family demonstrated leniency by supporting treatment over incarceration. Officials reported no issues during the teen’s stay, leading to recommendations for discharge.

During a recent court hearing, Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Kari Bloom mandated that the teen remain on probation and wear a GPS ankle monitor. He must also avoid social media, maintain distance from the Humphrey family, and adhere to school regulations.

The teen expressed remorse, stating he felt unworthy of forgiveness. His father, indicted in May on obstruction charges, is scheduled to stand trial on Dec. 1.
