TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Thursday that his office has issued criminal and civil subpoenas to White Hawk Carriers following a fatal crash involving one of their truck drivers in St. Lucie County that resulted in three deaths.
The driver, Harjinder Singh, is reportedly an undocumented immigrant who acquired Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) from both Washington and California. Authorities stated that Singh executed a dangerous U-turn, contributing to the crash. Uthmeier highlighted that Singh could not speak English, could not read road signs, and should not have held a commercial license.
“We're going to use every legal tool at our disposal to fight back and protect our citizens,” Uthmeier emphasized during the announcement.
Additionally, Uthmeier's office has filed legal requests with Washington and California to investigate how Singh obtained his CDL and to assess the number of undocumented individuals with similar licenses.
“There's no way he went through the proper training,” Uthmeier stated, accusing sanctuary states of enabling crime.
Local law enforcement was present during the announcement, with Uthmeier commending the sheriff for efforts to combat crime in the community.
