Two Fatal Crashes on I-95 in Westbrook
Two separate crashes on Interstate 95 in Westbrook on Friday morning resulted in the deaths of two individuals, according to State Police.
The first incident occurred around 7:42 a.m. when a tractor-trailer overturned on I-95 South near exit 64, spilling plywood across the highway. A 39-year-old man, identified as Nicholas Kupec of Waterford, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Three others were also transported for treatment.
A second crash took place at approximately 9:27 a.m., involving a collision between a car and another tractor-trailer on I-95 South near exit 65. Authorities reported serious injuries, and 22-year-old Isabella Butzgy of Montville was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video footage from the site revealed three vehicles with extensive damage. Both directions of I-95 were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
The Route 145 overpass in Westbrook was closed due to structural damage but has also been cleared for use. The Connecticut Department of Transportation confirmed that while repairs are necessary, the bridge remains safe for vehicles.
