TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Thursday that his office has issued criminal and civil subpoenas to White Hawk Carriers, following a fatal crash in St. Lucie County that resulted in three deaths.
The driver involved, Harjinder Singh, an undocumented immigrant, allegedly made a dangerous U-turn, leading to the deadly incident. Uthmeier stated that Singh, who holds Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) from both Washington and California, was unable to read English or understand road signs, indicating he should not have been licensed.
Uthmeier emphasized the state's commitment to legal action, saying, “We don't just talk the talk… we're gonna use every legal tool at our disposal to fight back and protect our citizens.” His office is also inquiring with Washington and California regarding Singh's licensing and the potential issuance of similar licenses to other undocumented individuals.
“There's no way he went through the proper training,” Uthmeier remarked, criticizing sanctuary states for allegedly protecting individuals who pose a risk to public safety.
The announcement was made with local law enforcement present, and Uthmeier acknowledged the sheriff's support in addressing crime and protecting families.
