Officer Won’t Face Charges in Fatal Crash in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer will not be charged for a fatal crash on April 2. A grand jury declined to indict Officer Alyssa Begel on second-degree manslaughter, returning a “no true bill” due to insufficient evidence.

The collision occurred around 9 p.m. at Fern Valley Road and Jeanine Drive. Officer Begel, responding to an EMS call, struck a westbound vehicle driven by 61-year-old Charles Briscoe, who turned in front of her. Briscoe died at the scene.

LMPD confirmed that Officer Begel did not activate her lights or sirens while navigating through traffic and was reportedly . She remains on administrative leave as the department conducts an internal investigation.

An LMPD statement expressed condolences to Briscoe’s family, noting, “Because this is still an active investigation, we are not able to provide further information.”
