ASHLAND, Ore. – A car crash on Interstate 5 near milepost 4 resulted in one fatality on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Oregon State Police, the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. when a black Honda Civic, operated by 68-year-old Terielizabeth Smead of Lemon Grove, California, veered out of its lane and collided with a parked Freightliner semi-truck.
Passenger Harry Smead, 74, was pronounced dead at the scene. Terielizabeth Smead sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Freightliner driver, 30-year-old Shekib Hakimi from Carmichael, California, was unharmed.
The highway was closed for approximately five hours while authorities conducted their investigation. Oregon State Police received assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Fire and Rescue, and other local agencies.
