New Orleans Police Arrest Suspect in Deadly Hit-and-Run from June

New Orleans police have arrested 18-year-old Jose Javier Suazo in connection with a hit-and-run incident that resulted in a fatality on June 14.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of North Interstate 10 Service Road and Bundy Road. According to authorities, a woman was riding her bike westbound with another cyclist when a car struck her from behind, leading to her death at the scene.

The vehicle fled without notifying authorities or seeking medical assistance for the victim. Following an investigation by the NOPD Traffic Fatality Unit, officials identified Suazo as the suspect and located the abandoned vehicle, which had been set ablaze in an apparent effort to conceal evidence.

Suazo faces multiple charges, including hit-and-run driving involving death or serious bodily injury, reckless operation of a vehicle, obstruction of justice, and falsifying a police report.

The investigation remains ongoing.
