Woman Killed in Portland Crash on Route 17 After Earlier Chase Called Off
PORTLAND, OR — A woman died in a crash on Route 17 near Portland on Tuesday afternoon, following a police pursuit that was discontinued prior to the incident.
The crash occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. when a vehicle collided with multiple other vehicles traveling northbound on Route 17. Authorities confirmed that the incident involved four vehicles. The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders, including the Portland Police Bureau and medical personnel, arrived shortly thereafter to assist those involved. At least two additional individuals sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals for evaluation. Lane closures were implemented for several hours as investigators worked to clear the scene.
According to officers, the chase had been called off shortly before the crash due to safety concerns. The circumstances leading to the initial pursuit are still under investigation. No officers were involved in the collision.
