Plane Crash at Percy Priest Lake Claims Lives of Remnant Church Leaders
NASHVILLE, TN — A small plane crash in Percy Priest Lake on May 29, 2021, resulted in the deaths of multiple individuals, including Gwen Shamblin Lara, leader of the controversial Remnant Fellowship Church.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a Cessna 501, which took off from Smyrna, TN, went down shortly after takeoff. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), there were seven occupants on board, all of whom perished in the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Davidson County Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Divers conducted a thorough search of the lake, recovering all bodies by the end of the day. Authorities confirmed that no one survived.
The NTSB is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft take off before spiraling down into the water, as emergency services worked quickly to assess the situation.
According to officials, the area surrounding the crash site has been cordoned off to facilitate the investigation, and local boat traffic is being rerouted. No injuries were reported on the ground.
