Bond Denied for Illegal Immigrant Trucker Charged in Fatal Florida Crash
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL — A judge has denied bond for Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant truck driver from India, accused of causing a crash that killed three people on Florida’s Turnpike on August 12, according to FOX News.
Judge Lauren Sweet ruled on Saturday that Singh poses a significant flight risk, finding probable cause for six charges, including three counts of vehicular homicide. The charges are classified as forcible felonies under state law.
“There are no conditions of release that will ensure your appearance at trial,” Sweet stated. Singh, who was extradited from California on Thursday, is currently in the custody of the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that Singh allegedly attempted an illegal U-turn through an “Official Use Only” access point, blocking all lanes of the highway and causing the deadly crash. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles indicated that his actions were reckless and resulted in the loss of three lives.
“This is a tragic event that has impacted many lives,” stated Dave Kerner, executive director of the agency. “At the conclusion of his state charges, he will be deported.”
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the incident, reinforcing both state and federal laws to ensure that individuals who pose a danger to others face justice.
