Tractor-Trailer Crash Claims Life on Delaware Memorial Bridge
A fatal crash occurred on the Delaware Memorial Bridge early July 11, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Zair Murzakov from Brooklyn.
Authorities reported that Murzakov was driving southbound when he lost control of his tractor-trailer, crossed three lanes, and struck a concrete wall near the Delaware anchorage around 3:30 a.m. The force of the impact caused the wall to collapse, sending the cab into approximately 20 feet of water in the Delaware River.
Emergency response teams located Murzakov’s cab at about 10:45 a.m. the same day. Recovery operations were delayed until 9 a.m. on July 12 due to water and tide conditions, as stated by the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA). Murzakov’s body was recovered the following day.
DRBA noted that the tractor-trailer was registered to an interstate freight carrier based in West Chester Township, Ohio. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
