Pedestrian Fatally Struck in New Gloucester
NEW GLOUCESTER — Stacy Strattard, 64, was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing Lewiston Road on Saturday night. The incident involved a 2016 Ford Fusion, and the driver has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for allegedly overstaying a tourist visa. An investigation is ongoing, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Strattard was co-owner of Birchwood Brewing in Gray, where she was remembered fondly by friends and family. Katie Maschino, Strattard's daughter, noted the outpouring of support from the community, highlighting her mother's ability to make others feel like family.
The brewery, which opened in 2019, served as a community hub where Strattard was actively involved, managing operations and fostering a welcoming environment. Andrew Sanborn, her son and co-owner, said Strattard had a passion for entrepreneurship and was dedicated to her staff.
Authorities and family members confirmed the driver's arrest and that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing. Strattard's legacy continues at Birchwood Brewing, where staff intend to honor her memory by creating a scholarship for aspiring entrepreneurs at Gray-New Gloucester schools.
