One Dead in Bangor Plane Crash on Friday Afternoon
A small plane crashed in Bangor around 1:20 p.m. Friday, killing the sole occupant, according to Bangor Fire Chief Geoffrey Low.
The 48-second video captured by 9-year-old Jaxon Cook shows the single-engine Cessna A185F touch down before pulling back up and cartwheeling into the ground. Jaxon’s mother, Kristie Babb, reported that the family had gone to the airport to watch larger planes land.
The identity of the deceased has not been confirmed. Low stated there were no other individuals onboard at the time of the accident.
Emergency response teams arrived on the scene, and Bangor police were notified following the incident. They intend to investigate further and have collected the video evidence from Jaxon.
The crash forced the temporary closure of Bangor International Airport’s runway, which reopened shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to airport spokesperson Aimee Thibodeau.
The tail number of the Cessna involved is N714HE. Preliminary online flight records indicate it landed in France before traveling to the United Kingdom, Iceland, and Greenland earlier in the week. The plane departed from Goose Bay, Labrador, at 9:21 a.m. Friday en route to Bangor.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities report.
