Fatal crash on Florida Turnpike kills three; driver extradited.

LAKE WORTH, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is dispatching Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins to California for the extradition of Harjinder Singh, implicated in a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike that claimed three lives.

On August 12, Singh allegedly executed an illegal U-turn in a restricted zone, resulting in a collision with a minivan. The crash killed three minivan occupants: a 30-year-old man from Florida City, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, and a 54-year-old man from Miami.

During a press conference, DeSantis condemned Singh, described as an undocumented immigrant, for securing commercial driver's licenses in Washington and California despite language barriers. “That was obviously a total disaster,” DeSantis stated.

Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, faces three counts of vehicular homicide and is currently on an ICE detainer in California, according to the San Joaquin County Jail.

Florida Highway Safety Executive Director Dave Kerner criticized Singh's actions as “reckless,” noting the emotional toll on families affected. Video evidence corroborates Singh's actions at the time of the accident.

Lt. Collins is expected to take custody of Singh Thursday morning. Further updates will be provided as the story develops.
