Debris Field Expands After Fatal UPS Plane Crash in Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A UPS plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville on Tuesday, resulting in a debris field spanning between a half and three-quarters of a mile.
As of Wednesday afternoon, at least 12 individuals are confirmed dead, with over a dozen still missing. The crash, en route to Honolulu, Hawaii, caused a significant fireball, scattering debris across a wide area.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the debris field stretches from Crittenden Drive to Melton Lane in the north-south direction, and from Grade Lane to Hawkins Avenue in the east-west direction. Emergency crews are continuing to assess the site and determine how many acres of land were impacted.
Metro Emergency Services indicated that it may take several days to ascertain the full extent of the damage. Authorities urge anyone who finds debris to report it, providing a description and location, along with images if possible.
Grade Lane to Fern Valley Road remains closed as investigation efforts continue.
