Two teenagers killed in wrong-way crash; suspect pleads not guilty.

MADISON (WKOW) — A not guilty plea was entered for Noelia Martinez-Avila, charged in a wrong-way crash on I-90 in DeForest that killed two teenagers.

During a court appearance on Tuesday, Martinez-Avila's attorney submitted the not guilty plea to six felony charges related to the deaths of Hallie Helgeson, 18, and Brady Heiling, 19, both from Minnesota.

Authorities allege that Martinez-Avila drove the wrong way on I-90 early on July 20, causing the collision that resulted in the fatalities. Prosecutors claim she was intoxicated and operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license at the time of the incident.

Following testimony from law enforcement, the judge established probable cause for the case to advance to trial.

Martinez-Avila had previously spent approximately two days in ICE custody in August due to these charges. After posting bond with the Dane County Sheriff's Office, an emergency motion was filed by the Dane County District Attorney's Office to raise her bond, resulting in her transfer back to the Dane County Jail, where she remains currently.

The investigation is ongoing.
