PERU, Ind. (WISH) — An 89-year-old woman is dead and four others injured following a two-vehicle crash in Miami County on Saturday morning.
Just after 10:30 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police Peru Post, Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and Peru Police Department responded to a collision on Meridian Road near East County Road 500 North. The crash involved a 2020 Chevrolet Blazer and a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox.
Authorities reported that Jennifer K. Workman, 53, was driving the Blazer northbound with passenger Tiffany D. Baker, 32, both from Peru. While attempting to overtake another vehicle, the Blazer collided with the Equinox, driven by Neal W. Birner, 62, also from Peru. Eclista M. Birner, 89, and Michael V. Birner, 68, both passengers in the Equinox, were also from Peru.
Eclista Birner was pronounced dead at the scene. Both Workman and Michael Birner sustained serious injuries and were airlifted to area hospitals. Neal Birner and Tiffany Baker were transported by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities stated there are no indications of alcohol or narcotics contributing to the crash. The investigation remains active, and Birner’s family has been notified.
