ANSON, ME — A 79-year-old man died in a crash on River Road on Monday afternoon.
Leroy Welch was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer when he made a left turn around 1:35 p.m. According to the Waterville Morning Sentinel, his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Ford Fusion driven by 20-year-old Olivia Ackerson, who was attempting to pass Welch and two other cars.
Welch was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that he had his turn signal activated at the time of the incident.
The crash is currently under investigation by local law enforcement, who believe that speed could be a contributing factor. No additional injuries were reported, and no further details regarding emergency response or roadway conditions have been released.
