3-Year-Old Girl Dies in DUI Crash Involving Mother

Car Crash in Nashville Results in Homicide Charges

A car crash on Harding Pike, which occurred at 8:15 a.m. on July 16, has led to homicide charges against the driver, 35-year-old Karlisha Norwood.

Authorities said Norwood was driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra when she crossed double yellow lines and collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck near Percy Warner Boulevard. A three-year-old girl was killed in the crash, and Norwood's three-year-old son sustained injuries and remains hospitalized at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Norwood has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, criminal homicide, child endangerment, aggravated child abuse, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, and driving without insurance. She is currently in custody with bail set at $285,000.

The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously injured in the incident. Norwood was treated at Vanderbilt Medical Center before being taken into police custody.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
