3-Year-Old Girl Dies Following Crash in West Nashville; Mother Charged

A 3-year-old girl has died following a head-on collision in West Nashville on July 16, and her mother is facing charges, according to Metro Nashville Police.

The crash occurred on Harding Pike when Karlisha Norwood, 35, was driving eastbound. Authorities say she was weaving in traffic before crossing double yellow lines and colliding with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck near Percy Warner Boulevard. The girl died from her injuries on July 20.

Norwood was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she is reported to be in critical but stable condition. Officials did not release the condition of the 2-year-old boy involved in the crash, who was also taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.

Authorities stated that Norwood admitted to taking prescription medication prior to the incident, and a blood sample was collected for testing.

Norwood faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular assault, child endangerment, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, , and driving without insurance.

The investigation is ongoing.
