Emergency FAA Order Grounds Boeing Aircraft Models After Engine Detachment Incident

(LEX 18) — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an emergency order grounding MD-10, MD-11, and DC-10 aircraft following a serious incident during takeoff, where an engine and pylon detached from a plane.

The directive mandates that all flights of these aircraft models be halted until required inspections are completed. The FAA expedited this action by bypassing the standard 30-day public comment period, citing urgent safety concerns.

This decision comes in response to the recent crash of a UPS MD-11 cargo jet in Louisville, where investigators reported that the left engine and pylon separated from the aircraft during takeoff, resulting in 14 fatalities.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the engine detachment.
