LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — On Monday, 12-year-old Haylee Ryan died after being struck by a school bus while riding her bicycle near Bradley Road and W. Tropical Parkway.
Authorities confirmed the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. as Haylee was riding west on Tropical Parkway in the designated bike lane. She collided with a school bus traveling in the same direction before hitting a parked Chevrolet Tahoe. Emergency responders transported her to UMC Trauma Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Clark County School District Superintendent Jhone Ebert extended condolences to those affected, emphasizing the need for community action to protect students. Ebert noted a troubling increase in incidents, with 84 students reported struck by vehicles since the school year began, up from 39 during the same period last year.
Haylee’s mother, Meghan, recalls her daughter as a vibrant, artistic individual. “Haylee was a very thoughtful, caring girl,” said Meghan, urging improvements in school area traffic management to enhance safety.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses.
