ASSUMPTION PARISH, La. — A fatal pedestrian crash occurred on Jones Street in Napoleonville shortly after 5:30 p.m. on May 8, resulting in the death of a 1-year-old child.
According to authorities, 52-year-old Connie Holmes of Napoleonville was driving east on Jones Street in a 2013 Ford Explorer. A group of children crossed the street when one child, attempting to follow, entered the vehicle’s path and was struck.
The child was transported to Assumption Parish Community Hospital by his mother but was later pronounced dead. Speed is not believed to be a factor, and Holmes displayed no signs of impairment or alcohol use. Both she and her front-seat passenger were wearing seat belts and were unharmed in the incident.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
